A cute assassins's creed with a bow is crazy, Introducing Cynthia Hidden in the Moonshadow by indie developer Tomasz "THdev" Hałajko
Cynthia is a great mix of assassins's creed stealth and puzzle bow action.
Cynthia: Hidden in the Moonshadow is an upcoming 3rd person title developed by Tomasz "THdev" Hałajko. It is an upcoming indie title with a lot of promise. I have tried the demo on steam and the game is getting there as an AAA, with an indie dev. Indie games have developed along the last 5 years dramatically. This is joey, introducing Cynthia: Hidden in the Moonshadow.
Once you dire up the demo, The game ran well on linux systems, using fedora linux. First thing that got me into the mood was the main menu music. It was great, it gave a great correct vibe to the game. The basic gameplay system heavily relies on the stealth in bushes (kinda remind me of blackflag) and puzzles on your way. Everything in the demo was great, well placed, and well planned. The intro of the game wasn't bad at all. In fact, it got me hooked from the start. There was a mini screen and a tutorial for giving you the controls. I like games that teach you how to get the most fun out of it.
Indie games recently have got more near toward the AAA art style. This is what happened in Cynthia. An indie game with genshin impact like art style. It was good, felt right in the eye. Actually, it matched well with the gameplay of Cynthia. Looking at indie games nowadays is hilarious. One developer indie games are getting closer and closer to AAA looking games. It wasn't taxing much on my system though. A FX-6350 stock 3.9GHz, GTX 960 2GB and 8Gb RAM were enough to run the game very smooth. This is important as it makes the game more accessible on more devices to run it. Cynthia had a crafting system, that you get to try at the tutorial, and then use it again to craft arrows for your bow. there were few materials, but enough to keep you searching the maps for them. You get to know the sprint controls and the stamina bar. The stamina bar reminded me also of genshin impact and Zelda: breath of the wild.
The environment and the world was well crafted in the demo. It had good texturing and good looking aesthetics. It again helped the gameplay style of Cynthia, because gameplay leans toward a more chill. The game relies on a story. I didn't get to know much from the demo, but I got hooked to what was there. Speaking of gameplay, it was a new idea out of the box. To make a puzzle game with 3rd person view and stealth mechanics. Once you encounter enemies, there was a detection bar while you walk between grass to get to the next checkpoint. On the demo I saw only one type of enemies, that shoot projectiles at you. You always have a choice of going Deus Ex style or Rambo style. I always love the Rambo style but this time, I wanted to try the detection mechanism of the game.
Puzzles were fun, I saw 2 types of puzzles in the demo as the shoot to open the gate, or push the box to get the leverage for a higher point. Speaking of shooting, the game grants you the only type of weapon, which is your bow. This also reminds me of a game we reviewed earlier called BLACKTAIL read it here. The combination of scenery, genshin/zelda graphics, blackflag stealth mechanics and great accessibility is what makes the game so great. I had great time playing the game, although it was too short (because its a demo).
Bugs?
There was only one problem, Whenever I get to walk in a narrow alley, the camera get to snap to the opposite direction. It happened a couple of times. But it is not that big deal overall.
The Verdict
Cynthia: Hidden in the Moonshadow by indie developer Tomasz Hałajko is a great new experience. This aim for a chill nice fun experience with a hooking story and some slight action in the middle. The game is still under development, so expect a lot of content to be added to the game. Don't Ever forget to support the developers by wishlisting the game on steam. This was Joey on GamerFlux, See ya on the next gig.
